We wanted a good Cornish pasty for our lunch and headed into Newquay to find one. Newquay managed to fulfil my expectations. We found nothing! There are stunning views and pretty bays, all protected by car parks which keep out the transient visitor by price.
At a high point above Newquay stands the Huer’s Hut. The Huers had the job of spotting the shoals of mackerel and shouting or hueing to the fisherman in their boats, telling them where to go. We passed the point. Double yellow lines prevented a stop. We drove through much of the town hunting for a pasty shop. We saw one possible, but couldn’t park. There were plenty of pizza bars and the like – just nowhere selling the traditional Cornish meal.
On the outskirts of town we came across a shop which said ‘fresh baked pasties. We stopped, although I didn’t buy a parking ticket. I was glad I hadn’t for the shop had no pasties.
Out of Newquay, we found some very
good pasties at Mawgan Porth. It’s a
little bay with the usual surf shops. You could park for free and there were
pleasant seats to sit on and enjoy the food. Well done Mawgan Porth.

A view over the beach. Really quite delightful.

Perfect for a picnic.

The local bird appeared to be the jackdaw.

Beach access was easy.

We liked the way the stream carved out its sand cliffs.

Hi there!

Another photo is taken.

It’s good to be on a beach.

Caves in the cliffs at Mawgan Porth.

A wave splashes over a large rock.

The RNLI are on duty.

Mawgan Porth proved a happy hunting ground for snails!

This one carries a bonus fly!
