You probably won’t have heard of Bowithick. It nestles under Buttern Hill and Bray Down – both 346 metres high – and is just a farm and associated buildings. To get to this area, close by Bowithick, take one of several routes from Altarnun towards Camelford. Splash through one ford and as you arrive at another just pull off the road. It’s an idyllic spot. For once, we weren’t alone. There were a couple of other cars about but well-spaced out.
So here we are, by the ford with a couple of bridges (not vehicular) to make it up to three river crossings. The stream is Penpoint Water – the same one as at Altarnun and it flows generally east to join the Tamar.

The river flows through gentle countryside with lichen covered trees for company.
The sheep nibbled grass is easy to walk on.
A wanderer among the trees.
The ford has a rough road surface.
Looking towards Camelford.
The bridge was lovely – very rough surfaced. Just ask the person crossing.
The slab stone bridge.
Bowithick
isn’t dramatic, just gently lovely.

And so, back to the car for the journey on to Camelford.
