Our flat was part of quite a substantial house. It was very handily placed for the local shop for the co-op – was next door.
It wasn’t huge, but it was well stocked. There was no risk of going hungry and if we wanted luxuries like fresh raspberries – they were available.
Abandoned houses, we had noticed, tended to be just left. There were out of use buildings everywhere, slowly rotting away and yet Daliburgh was a living community.
This one had been the village school (which was now elsewhere) and then a shop at one time. Now no use could be found for it and obviously bit by bit it was tumbling away.
Had we had a fire, the brigade was close at hand. Although the fire station says it is for Lochboisdale, it was firmly in Daliburgh, just yards from our flat. Of course, where the firemen actually were, had there been a ‘shout’ was a different matter.

Well, it was water lilies!

This was the view back across Loch nan Clacha Mòra. You can see the green sign of the Co-op behind the telegraph pole and our flat was at the right of the huge building to its left.
That’s it, on the left and next to the loch. It was a fab location.
What’s this? Another fire station? Yes, at the time of our visit, little Daliburgh had two fire stations although locals didn’t seem sure if this one had opened yet.
Peat is always hard to photograph, it is just so black – but here we have a modern bungalow complete with peat pile in Daliburgh.
And before we return to our flat – it had started to rain – let’s note there was a post office as well.
Once again, it is time to say goodnight.
