South Uist’s extreme south

Polachar was the place where the B Road south from Daliburgh came to an abrupt end on the south coast of the island of South Uist.

From time to time the scene and weather looked all but perfect but even on a very calm day, you knew that if you had one type of weather now, it would soon change to something else.

But the rocks, the sea and the mostly blue sky were an absolute delight.

To the south was the island of Barra which seemed to be taking the brunt of the bad weather. Other islands – Lingay, Fiaray and Fuday may also be visible in that shot.

In a place with so much ancient history it was no surprise to find a standing stone.

It looks as though a watcher was caught unawares.

The lush vegetation reached down to the rocky shore. We were going to head east and then turn south to reach another island.
