I was attracted by a small church shown on the map quite near our campsite. It appeared to be nowhere, except by the Royal Military Canal. I wondered if it might be Bilsington, which has family history interest for me, but it proved to be the church for Bilsington’s neighbour – Bonnington.

Let’s go in.

Inside we found a local charity board. I wonder if 40p is still distributed to the poor of the parish each Christmas.

Bonnington Font – probably rarely used so an ideal spot for floral art. We think there must have been a wedding the previous weekend and I’m sure Bonnington is seen as an ideal and romantic spot for such services.

The simple inside. There had obviously been a balcony but it is now devoid of flooring.

Bonnington had some pieces of medieval glass.

There was the exterior of the church. June 4th looked set to be another glorious day. I thought the church porch was attractive, if not actually glorious.

As mentioned above, the church was adjacent to the canal.

The view west with very reflective still waters.

The view east was towards the morning sun but still wonderfully reflective.

I liked this sign. Shepherds on the marsh were often called lookers and the brick building in the background is a lookers hut. Some survive still.
And finally, let’s see the church from the canal.
