It was a happy pair of campers who returned to the tent at Laggan after a day walking on Kerrera.

The view from the tent was fantastic with its blue sky over the hills. What better, we thought, than to pop into Oban and climb up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, and relax, watching the shipping in the harbour, as the sun went down.
Our meanness won through. We parked in the free Tesco’s car park on the wrong side of town and so had quite a walk up to the tower.

From a point on the long flight of steps we could look over the local distillery, across the water to Kerrera and beyond to Mull.

Soon we were inside McCaig's Tower.

Some visitors posed for the camera.

A sweep round the tower.
We had misjudged the weather. It was drizzling.

But sure enough, we could see the Mull ferry arrive although Mull itself had vanished.
It rained harder as that Mull ferry approached its quayside.

In fact it was now raining very hard – the proverbial stair rods. And where were our waterproofs? They were in the car in the Tesco car park best part of a kilometre away. There was no shelter at the tower so we legged it. The girls on the seat half way up the steps had seemed to be having a typically coarse conversation as we went up. Weather changes things. They now chatted cheerfully with us as we hurried down. We found a bit of shelter under the little porch of the United Reform chapel. It hardly mattered for we were soaked already. Eventually, the rain subsided a bit and we continued back to the car. It was two rather soggy campers who made their way back to Laggan.
