Having left our overnight camp in the Edale area, we headed to Cheadle Hulme in Cheshire to see relatives. By the time we left, lunchtime wasn’t so far away, but more or less on our route, just over the boundary and in Staffordshire, there was Biddulph Grange, a National Trust property and we made that our picnic stop.

It certainly looked pleasant enough.

And those fish were enormous.

A reflective, if rather grotesque building.

Tunnels led to new bits of garden.

A stony path was favoured by some butterflies.

Monkey Puzzle trees led us to a structure described as a Cheshire Cottage.

There were grotesque statues in dark recesses inside.

It was hard to get a handle on the building. It seemed such a hotch potch.
But the plants seemed simple enough

Even if trimming them was a job for people with trimmers and spirit levels.

Pretty plants and slightly strange statues were features of the garden.

And of course there were visitors as well.
