We came across the chambered tomb of Barpa Langais.

The path before us had an interesting gate, which led to the cairn.

We approached this cairn – a 5000-year-old structure.

Anywhere on North Uist was a place to see a loch.
But here we also met people, two ladies from near Guildford. Chance meetings and instant, short-lived friendships are always a delight. These two characters had come to the remote and unsung Uists and so were bound to have things in common with us. Soon we were well into chat, not only about the south east of England, but also about further flung places. How wonderful to be reminiscing about the Faeroe Islands with two ladies from the south whilst standing by one of the oldest buildings in Europe.

The entrance to the cairn…
… and an attempt at the inside.
