This, I suppose, was the centre of town and not far away (where we had parked) was the site of the railway station – which had been closed for best part 40 years when we visited in 1971. Now, with a tourism revival, the area has been re-themed in a railway manner.
Hmm, those rails don’t look quite right!
We visited the museum (and weren’t too impressed really although it would have been just fine for a donation rather than a ticket price).
This picture shows Clifden Station when it really was one.
The building did have the air of a converted engine shed.
Messrs Alcock and Brown had dropped in for a chat. Of course, they really dropped into the area in 1919 having made the first ever trans-Atlantic air flight.
An ancient loom – but the delicate tones of the wool are what caught my eye.
Last time I said we’d go to Beach and Sky, so here’s the beach with a good view to Clifden.
Very pretty – but the Sky Road beckoned.
