The Bog Road

Our route back to Actons from Inishfee took us across The Bog Road again.

The hilltops may have been just lost, but how grand to see the area with blue water and some sunshine on the slopes.

There’s the road wending its way across the Derrigimlagh Bog – rich in plant life but lacking in fauna. Fishing folk felt there couldn’t be fish in the ponds and lakes because there were no birds around to harvest any fish.

The broad expanse of the bog lands is captured here. But maybe Mr Google catches it better with his view from space. This has Actons at the top left and Inishfee at bottom right. The bog lands are clear to see. There’s an awful lot of water in Connemara!

We returned to the tent and fell into conversation with ‘the archaeologist’. He commended a walk from near Cleggan and we decided it would be a good idea.

Next time!
