Our archaeologist friend, on the campsite, told us of what he called a fine courtyard tomb and a decent walk. We decided to give it a go. It was just to the north of the bay, which included Cleggan harbour – departure point for Inishbofin. We took the short drive to Cleggan. And a little further to a parking spot.

We parked by an attractive farm which appeared to be used as holiday lets.

That was Cleggan, across the water. The foal seemed to want to avoid being caught in anything like a decent photograph.

And here was the courtyard tomb.

The courtyard is at this end – a sort of porch area into the tomb proper. Tombs like this could be three thousand five hundred years old.

Hey! What a sky!

It’s quite an impressive structure.

The setting was certainly gentle.
So, too, were the people.

This was the start of a walk. It was time to leave the tomb, get back to the track and continue to the west.

These meadows were wonderfully flowery.

The sheep looked good too.
When we reached slightly rougher areas, the flowers got better.

Bright yellow and pink flowers clung to the low cliffs.

And that’s where I’ll leave you to hang on – until next time.
