Blackmill Bay

Blackmill Bay is on the west coast of Luing. The information board we had seen about the Luing cows spoke of them being collected by MacBrayne steamers at Blackmill Bay so we went to have a look.

First we saw some of those Luing cows and very nice they looked too.

An explanation board showed photos of steamers at the jetty. The Chevalier was part of a three steamer journey which could get passengers from Glasgow to Oban via the Crinnan Canal

Here are those pier remains. I hardly think a CalMac ferry will be calling. Across the water is the island of Lunga.

A view from Blackmill to Mull.

This is actually Blackmill Bay

Blackmill Bay and a view across Luing with the Scottish mainland in the background.

There was one small boat in the bay.

A herring gull stands sentry at Blackmill Bay – and so do a pair of tourists.

It almost looked as though the sun was trying to shine. Remembering the rain on the tent and when we arrived on Luing, it seemed amazing.

Before we left Blackmill we were treated to a goose flypast.

Toberonochy was calling.
